Reading is one of those things that it seems we do a lot of or not at all. Well, I’m here today to promote the value of reading. It’s great for the imagination, it stimulates the brain in new ways, and it can provide a great deal of quiet entertainment!
Imagination
Reading is a fabulous way to allow your imagination to expand and grow in new ways. Since you can’t see what you read, you are left to your own devices to picture in your mind the characters and scenery that is written in the words before you.
It’s often interesting to read a book and then watch the movie, if there is one. It’s amazing how differently the characters come to life on screen then they did in your mind, isn’t it? I think that is one of the beauties of reading – the book comes to life in a unique and interesting way for every reader.
Stimulating the Brain
Reading is a great way to stimulate the brain. It allows you to focus on a singular object – the book – and then it allows your mind to wander from there. To paint the canvas, so to speak, of what you are reading.
There is, of course, books also written purposely to stimulate our thinking in one way or another. Perhaps the biggest example in history is the Bible, but on a more general level there are many, many self-improvement books geared toward helping us create new, healthier habits or ways of thinking.
Entertainment
Not to be forgotten, books are here for our entertainment! They are a fun escape from real life. My how time flies when one finds themselves in an intriguing new book! It’s the really good books that are hard to put down for even the tiniest of breaks. That’s when you know you’ve found a great book!
Is Reading Part of Your Life?
If so, what types of books do you prefer? Books that tap mostly into your imagination? Self-improvement or self-help books? Entertainment? Do you wind down your day with a good book or ramp up your morning with a chapter from your latest find?
